A Little Dusty…

A Little Dusty…

Pardon the “dust” around here. I decided last week, it was time to wipe the dust off of my faithful MacBook and get to writing again (well, writing more personally for our website…I’ve been doing plenty of work on it, teaching and being a student). I completed my Masters Degree last week, and have been feeling the pull to write more frequently. I’ve given this a go before and taken an extended break, and didn’t necessarily post regularly. However, I’ve been waking up way earlier than necessary, and thought I’d write instead of getting sucked into the worlds of Facebook and Pinterest right away.

You might also notice (if you read any of my posts when I used to blog on here) that the site has a makeover. Grant is pretty handy when it comes to these things, so he’s customizing a theme to our likings. It may no longer be “dusty” when you read this, but if it is, it will get better soon! There will hopefully be a spot for me to post my instagram photos (since I use them pretty regularly) and possibly videos, should we choose to post them.

What is my purpose? To record what matters in our life, even if at times what matters seems silly!! You will most likely find posts about family life (trips, birthday parties, family gatherings, etc), spiritual life (what God is teaching me/us), and maybe some about professional life (though that’s a tricky one to write about sometimes!!). I am going to do my best to write WAY more frequently than I had been, but no promises. :) Thanks for joining me on the journey!

Gavin’s ‘da-da’, my husband!

This photo is a digital Quick Page that I did for Grant’s Father’s Day card. Basically, I added the photo and the text, everything else was designed by one of the CT members for JessicaSprague.com. Credits below. Anyway, while we generally don’t “celebrate” a lot of these Hallmark-y holidays, I do want to pay tribute to my husband, Gavin’s da-da, because I don’t do it enough! I may be a little partial, but Grant is pretty much the best dad ever. From the day Gavin was born (or even from the day we found out we were pregnant), Grant has been a part of everything. He plays a very active role in raising our son (not that we’ve had a son too terribly long, but still!). He changed diapers from the beginning; he stayed up with him when he wouldn’t sleep a couple of the nights the first week we were home from the hospital. He looks for fun things for them to do (again, only 10 months old…but Grant gets creative). I come into the room from doing something and Gavin’s giggling like crazy because Grant is attacking him, or making funny faces, or doing something as simple as shaking a cup with ice in it. He knows how to make the boy smile! A few weeks ago, I hear commotion while I’m in another room, and it turns out they’re having a “pillow fight.” Gavin was laughing so hard!! Who has pillow fights with 9 month-olds! He loves taking Gavin on wagon rides and this week we bought a bike seat and tried it out. Again, success! I love that they get to spend so much time together and create such a strong Father-Son bond. It’s beautiful to see. I always knew Grant would be a good father, I just didn’t know what it would really feel like to see him in action. Amazing…really can’t put it into words! So, Grant, thanks for being you. Thanks for being an absolutely wonderful Father. Gavin and I are richly blessed, and I thank God for you! Love you :) .

Welcome Summer 2010!

// June 16th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // blog

Apparently I’ve taken a “blog-cation” for the past few months…or maybe it’s just this thing called school that stole my attention. Whatever the case, I am hoping to get back on the blogging horse and get writing! In the short week (and a half since I didn’t finish this post right away) that I have been on summer break, one (of the many) things I have done is make a digital scrapbook layout of some summertime goals. One goal is to blog at least twice a week…so, can I do it? Maybe if I get into that habit I’ll actually continue once school starts again in the fall at the end of July!

A quick update: the beautiful “little man” in this photo is almost 10 months old (ohmygoshibetterprepareforhisfirstbirthday!!!), has 5 teeth with 3 more coming in (thank you, God, for teething being remarkably smooth for us, really…really…thankful!), is crawling around (and pretty much finds anything he’s not supposed to get into rather than the plethora of toys out for him), and pretty much shovels any food placed in front of him into his mouth (seriously-not a food he hasn’t enjoyed thus far).

The last week and a half has been wonderful! I have been able to spend so much time with my husband and baby boy. I have long been wanting to try some new recipes…particularly from some easy cooking sites I stalk. I have expressed to Grant on more than one occasion that I wish we had a bigger kitchen, and freezer, so I could make a bunch of meals to put in the freezer. Then, when the craziness of life hits we have great meals easily accessible to us! Well, I did go ahead and make a few things, since having a larger kitchen probably won’t happen for awhile. I made a batch of whole wheat pancakes in Gavin sizes so we have something quick to pull out and heat up for him for breakfast or snack time. They were delicious for breakfast and then I froze the leftovers! I also made some mini sweet potato muffins, also a hit!! In the same week I cranked out homemade apple-pear sauce (again much in the freezer, frozen in ice cube trays so there are smaller portions to thaw), parmesan chicken, and shredded BBQ chicken. Of what I made, all are “keepers” as far as the recipes go. Delightful! Another one of my goals for the summer is to cook more, so far, so good…I just need to keep the momentum going!
